At 12:03pm on Monday 02/26/24 Seward County Firefighters we’re dispatched to a residential structure fire on Andrew Lane East of Road P in Eastern Seward County. While Firefighters where responding they were provided updated information from the Liberal/Seward County Communications Center that the fire involved multiple homes. Firefighters arrived on scene to 5 residential structures fully involved, 1 with active fire to the rear and 1 immediately threatened by fire. Resources were requested from Liberal City Fire, Stevens, Haskell, and Meade Counties. In all 20 fire apparatus and 30 Firefighters worked to contain the incident through the afternoon hours.
The Andrew Incident was supported by Seward County Emergency Medical Services, Seward County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, and Seward County Emergency Management.
CMS Electric and Black Hills energy immediately arrived on scene and secured utilities for Firefighters. Local farmers and Arkalon Ethanol assisted providing water supply to fire apparatus.
Two Seward County Firefighters where transported by Seward County Ems to Southwest Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries and since have been released.
Kansas State Fire Marshal Fire Investigators are investigating the fire and damage amounts are not available at this time.
During critical fire weather days we remind all resident most wildfires are preventable. We ask residents to mindful of upcoming wind events, adjust any hot work to early morning hours with humidity levels are higher, refrain from any hot work on windy days and have fire control measures in place.
