SCCC Holiday Concert to showcase student talent

BY PHILLIP LEE

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Community College Humanities Department will be holding its Holiday Concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 22 in the Clifford and Irene Pepper Showcase Theater on the SCCC campus.

The concert will highlight the talents of the student choir and the student band, featuring holiday songs and music.

Claire Thompson, in her first year as SCCC instrumental music instructor, will be conducting the band.

“I am just buzzing with excitement for this first concert,” Thompson said. “The students have worked incredibly hard since the beginning of the semester and we’ve got four great pieces to get everyone in holiday spirit.”

Magda Silva, SCCC humanities division chair and vocal music instructor, will be leading the choir.

“It’s a smaller group, but a good choir,” Silva said. “I was out for a while at the beginning of the semester and when I came back, I was blown away by how they had things down and done. All we’ve had to do was some polish and work on the little things.”

The choir will kick off the concert, followed by the band.

Tickets are three dollars each and can be purchased in advance or at the door on the night of the concert. All proceeds go to scholarships for the music department.
