The Liberal Redskins won their third consecutive opener with a 64-6 victory over the Wichita North Redhawks Friday night at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex.  On a damp cloudy night with temperatures in the low 50’s, the Redskins led 36-0 after one quarter and 57-6 at halftime.  Eight different Redskins scored touchdowns.

Tevin Cotter hooked up with James Fieser for a 49 yard touchdown at the 10:54 mark.  LHS got the two point conversion for an 8-0 lead.  Tevin Cotter flipped a seven yard touchdown pass to Ismael Calderon and got the two point conversion for a 16-0 lead with 8:15 to play in the first.  Cotter found Fieser for 19 yards at the 4:40 mark.  A 34 yard run by Xavier Tafoya made it 30-0.  Eathan Hernandez returned a punt 40 yards into the south endzone for a touchdown with 43 seconds remaining in the first quarter and a 36-0 lead.  Tevin Cotter went back to work in the second quarter finding Max Holman for a 16 yard score.  The Natividad Ovalle PAT made it 42-0.  Landen McNabb finished a 24 yard touchdown run into the north endzone by running over a Redhawk defender.  Max Holman intercepted a pass for the first turnover of the game with 6:37 to play in the half.  A Bren Kappelmann two yard quarterback sneak made it 57-6 after the PAT.  Wichita North’s Julian Vizcarra ran in an 18 yard touchdown with 14 seconds remaining in the half.  There was a running clock in the second half.  Bren Kappelmann zipped a 22 yard touchdown pass to Alvin Amador with 11:35 to play for the only score of the second half.

Tevin Cotter tossed four touchdown passes.  Ismael Calderon was Epic Touch Player of the Game for his play in all facets of the game.

Liberal put up 350 yards of offense.  Tevin Cotter was 5-6 for 98 yards and four touchdowns.  Bren Kappelmann was 4-6 for 66 yards with  a touchdown passing and rushing.  Xavier Tafoya had three carries for 63 yards and a touchdown.   James Fieser had two catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns.  The Angry Red defense had eight tackles for loss.  Blayden Betts had two tackles for loss.  Landy Fitzgerald and Ismael Calderon had five tackles a piece.

Liberal plays at Wichita South Friday at 7pm with Redskin Pre-game at 6 on 1270 and 92.3.  The Titans lost 22-20 to Wichita Southeast Friday.
