Redskins Rally Past Red Demons in Extra Innings

The Liberal Redskin baseball team rallied from down 7-0 with defeat the visiting Dodge City Red Demons 9-8 in nine innings Tuesday night at the National Beef Sports Complex.  Liberal moves from 15th to 12th in the regional standings.

The Red Demons scored in five of the first six innings with one in the first, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth.  The Redskins scored two in the sixth when Xavier Porras and Eathan Hernandez singled and scored on Kye Morris’s two RBI double to right center.  The Angry Red scored five in the seventh to tie it.  Marco Alonso ripped a double down the left field line to begin the inning.  Austin Dodge lined a single to left to make it 7-3.  Eathan Hernandez ripped a single off the mound and into center to make it 7-4.  A Kye Morris RBI single made it 7-5.  With two outs, the seniors were clutch.  A Landon Martinez RBI single made it 7-6 and Alex Schwindt’s hit through the left side tied the game.  DCHS chased home a run in the ninth but had runners on second and third and no outs and only score once due to a base running error on a ground out the LHS third baseman Marco Alonso.  In the bottom of the ninth, Kye Morris singled with one out.  Landon Martinez singled with two outs.  Alex Schwindt fisted a game tying single to right to tie the game for his second game tying game saving single of the game.  Marco Alonso infield pop up dropped untouched for a game winning hit.

Liberal out-hit Dodge City 15-11.  Dodge City committed five errors and Liberal had one.

Landon Martinez was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 4-6.  Kye Morris was 3-5 with three RBI’s and two runs.  Xavier Porras, Marco Alonso, and Alex Schwindt added two hits a piece.

Liberal has now won WAC series against Dodge City and Garden City on the season.  Dodge City falls to 8-16 overall and 3-9 in the WAC.  Liberal is 8-16 overall and 4-7 in the WAC.  Liberal hosts Hays for their last regular season game and Senior Night Thursday night at about 6pm on 1270 and 92.3.
