Goodwell, Okla.-For the first time in the school’s history, Oklahoma

Panhandle State University’s Chapter of the Student Oklahoma Education

Association (SOEA) boasts two state officers for the 2012-2013 school year.

Torri Janzen is serving the state Chapter of SOEA as the delegate to the

National Education Association and Selma Belts is serving as the Legislative

Representative. In another first, Belts is the first international student

to hold a state-wide office.

OPSU’s SOEA is often in the news for their contributions to the community,

and they have already participated in the National Day of Service Project

that was set up in remembrance of the events on Sept. 11, 2001 as they

completed projects at the home of a local veteran. They also recognized vets

at the first home football game on Sept. 8.

This year’s local SOEA officers include Kayla Pollard, President; Janzen,

Vice President; Kirsten Benyshek, Secretary; Belts, Treasurer; Brittany

Sciacca, Historian; and Monica Soukup, Media Specialist.
