Rick Talmadge

Rick Talmadge, age 78, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born on December 23, 1946, to Earl Ray and Betty Jane (Bond) Talmadge.

Rick grew up in Detroit and graduated from Wayne High School. He married Linda Mason on November 25, 1978. Even though they later divorced, they remained life-long friends. After serving honorably in the United States Army, he returned to Wayne and later lived in Dallas, Texas, where he worked in road construction. Eventually, he made his way to Ulysses, Kansas, where he spent many years working at the Civic Center. There, Rick became a familiar and trusted presence in the community.

He was a man who rarely sat still. Rick enjoyed keeping busy, whether it was watching the weather forecast, spending time outdoors, or working with his hands. He loved drag racing, watching sports, shooting with his grandkids, and had a deep fondness for horses. Rick also had a sharp sense of humor and was a practical joker, always ready with a laugh or a lighthearted remark. Generously, he gave freely of his time and talents, and his family was always a top priority in his life.

Rick is survived by his children: Daniel Talmadge of Dallas, Texas, Ryan Talmadge of Dallas, Texas, Cindy and Kris Warner of Ulysses, Kansas, and Chris and Lacy Talmadge of Lakin, Kansas; sisters, Kathy and Tom Kanable of Onstead, Michigan, and Deb Lewis of Garden City, Michigan; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Betty Talmadge, and brothers, Gary Talmadge and Chuck Talmadge.
