Phyllis A. Krause, age 92, passed away peacefully late Thursday evening, June 19, 2025, at the Fowler Residential Care Center in Fowler, Kansas.
Phyllis was born on March 28, 1933, in Junction City, Kansas, to Oscar and Luella (Hummel) Latzke. She spent her early years attending school in Chatman and later graduated from Dickinson County High School. She pursued higher education at Colorado Women’s College before transferring to Kansas State University, where she graduated in 1955.
In 1956, she married Merle G. Krause at the United Methodist Church in Lyona, Kansas. The couple initially made their home in Scott City before settling in Plains in 1978. A devoted wife and mother, Phyllis worked as a schoolteacher before dedicating herself full-time to raising her family.
Phyllis was a faithful member of the Plains Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, where she served as past president. She was also active as a choir director, a member of the Kappa Delta sorority, and a longtime AVON representative. Her passions included gardening, cooking, teaching piano, decorating for the holidays, and above all, cherishing time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Dianne Kressin and husband Richard of Brenham, Texas, and David Krause and wife Tiffani of Plains; her brother, Larry Latzke; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Merle Krause, on October 20, 2020, and by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Plains Methodist Church. Friends may call on Sunday, June 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade, with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Plains Cemetery.
