Lewis Wendell Wheeler, 89, of Hugoton, Kansas, was called home by his heavenly Father Friday, May 16, 2025, at The Sycamore in Amarillo, Texas. Lewis was born November 3, 1935, to Clarence Henry Wheeler and Ruth Ellis Wheeler, in Stevens County Kansas. He graduated from Friends Bible Academy in Haviland, Kansas, and continued his education at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas.
On April 4, 1958, Lewis married Grace Olive Nuffer in Emporia, Kansas. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they lived for a short time but ultimately settled down in rural Hugoton where Lewis was a well-known and respected farmer and a long-time board member for Citizens State Bank in Hugoton. He was an active member and trustee of Bethel Friends Church and later in life attended Fellowship Baptist in Liberal, Kansas.
Lewis is preceded in death by his parents and Grace, his beloved wife of 66 years. He is survived by his brother, Lee Wheeler and wife Vickie of Hugoton; his daughters, Dana Ratliff and husband Aaron; Lisa Mason and husband Eric; four grandchildren, Laci McCreary and husband Josh; Sharaya Mauck and husband Kyle; Lance Ratliff and wife Sarah; Paige Garrison and husband Patric and eight great-grandchildren, Chloe, Blakely, Caill, Remi, Wesley, Kenzie, Case and Colt.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Garnand Funeral Home, 920 E. 11th Street in Hugoton, Kansas. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sovereign Redeemer Church in Hugoton with Pastor Eric Mason officiating. Interment will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery.
