Christene Berger

Christene Berger, age 70, died Monday, June 16, 2025, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born on October 16, 1954, in Tripoli, Libya, the daughter of Thomas Henry and Mildred Donna (Lea) Cowper.

Christene lived in Africa and Scotland, eventually settling in Amarillo, Texas, where she lived most of her life. Raised with love and guidance by her mother and stepfather, Everett Storry, Christene built a life rooted in faith, family, and kindness. In Amarillo, she met the love of her life, Phillip Berger, and they were united in marriage on April 26, 1986. Together, they shared a deep spiritual bond, dedicating themselves to ministry work for many years. In 1991, Christene and Phillip made their home in Ulysses, where she built a life filled with service and love. Their travels took them around the world to international conventions. Christene was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith.
Christene’s compassion extended to all of God’s creations. Her work as a meter reader brought her joy, not only for the work itself but because it allowed her to interact with the many dogs along her route. Creative and talented, she found joy in crocheting and gardening, especially treasuring the moments spent tending to the garden with her beloved grandson, Nate.
Christene will be remembered for her warm heart, her dedication to sharing her faith, her creativity, and her deep love for family, friends, and all creatures great and small.
Christene is survived by her husband, Phillip of their home; daughter, Kelsie Berger of Ulysses; sister, Gwen Logan of Longview, Texas; brother, Tom Cowper of Houston, Texas; grandson, Bentlee Nathan Berger-Gaspard of Ulysses; and extended family and friends.

Christene is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Everett and Mildred Storry; father, Thomas Cowper; and brother, Barry Cowper.
