Carol Jean Marie McCulloch, age 84, passed away late Friday evening, July 25, 2025, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.
She was born November 6, 1940, at Minot, North Dakota, the daughter of Almond McCullough and Lorraine Marie (Deschambault) Taylor. As a young girl, she attended school in Berthold, North Dakota until the fifth grade before moving to Van Hook, North Dakota. Later the family returned to Berthold where she graduated from Berthold High School in 1958. After her graduation, she attended nurses training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot, North Dakota. After her training, she began her nursing career.
On November 11, 1961, she married Robert (Bob) McCulloch in Minot, North Dakota. In 1970, the couple moved to Burlington, Colorado. While in Burlington, she worked as an OB and ICU nurse. In 1984, they moved to Meade, Kansas, and she began working at Southwest Medical Center as an OB and ICU nurse. She also began working as an OB nurse for Meade District Hospital. While at Meade, she was instrumental in updating the OB and delivery room to the current standards, retiring in 2012.
She is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, serving as a Lector, Cantor, and Eucharistic Minister, she was also a member of the Daughters of Isabelle. She enjoys crocheting, knitting, playing cards, games, reading, gardening, watching sports, mainly her children and grandchildren, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Mike McCulloch (Jacque) of Meade, Mark McCulloch of Dighton, Kansas, Mitch McCulloch of Scott City, Kansas, Michelle Benear (Darwin) of Meade, Greg McCulloch of Garden City, and Nikki Gokey (Ray) of Meade; two brothers, Ronald Taylor and Paul Scott Taylor both of Redding, California; two sisters, Carmen Ramero of Redding, California, and Sandra Taylor of California; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She is preceded in death by her husband; Bob; parents; four brothers, Leslie Dwayne Taylor, Steven Taylor, George Taylor, and Guy Taylor; a sister, Charlotte Royers; a grandson, Christopher Benear; and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Jean Benear.
Vigil services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Meade. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the church. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Cremation will follow the services with burial in Graceland Cemetery, Meade, at a later date.
The family would welcome memorials to Kansans for Life, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of the funeral home.
