Low Income Energy Assistance To Become Available In OK

KSCB News - July 8, 2013 8:25 am

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services will soon begin taking applications to help low-income households pay their cooling bills this summer.

The agency announced it would begin taking applications on Tuesday.

The federal government is making available about $16 million for its Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Eligibility is based on household income, with a maximum of $1,024 in net monthly income for a one-person household and up to $3,565 in net monthly income for an eight-person household. The anticipated one-time benefit amounts range from about $120 for a one-person household to up to $180 for a household of two or more.

Households that already receive public assistance through DHS are expected to be automatically authorized.
