The Liberal softball team began a busy five game in three day stretch by sweeping the Dodge City Red Demons 14-4 and 18-1 Thursday afternoon and evening at the Legends Sports Complex in Dodge City. It’s Liberal’s first WAC wins of the season.
In game one, Liberal started strongly scoring six in the first, four in the second, and four in the third. Dodge scored one in the second and three in the fourth. The game went five innings due to run rule. Taylor Harding was 3-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI’s, and three runs. Brooklyn Short also slugged a home run going 2-3 with four RBI’s. Miley Janko was 2-4 with four RBI’s and a double. Devaney Carter was 2-2 with three RBI’s. Haiden Lyon was 2-4. Devaney Carter pitched 1 and 1/3 scoreless in relief. Liberal out-hit the Demons 11-5.
In game two, Liberal scored in every inning on the way to a five inning run rule win. LHS plated two in the first, two in the second, three in the third and fourth, and eight in the fifth. Zoey Torres was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and three runs. Miley Janko was 3-4 with a double and three runs. Devaney Carter was 2-4. Allie Champion pitched four scoreless innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
Dodge City is 3-22 and 0-11 in the WAC. Liberal is 11-12 overall and 2-9 in the WAC. Liberal plays two at Lakin Wednesday at 3pm.
