Liberal Police Officer Assaulted by Patient at Southwest Medical Center

On October 18th,  around 4:06AM, LPD officers were dispatched to the Southwest Medical Center, at 315 West 15th Street, for reports of a combative subject. LPD Sgt. Josiah Smiddy and Officer Sean Robison arrived on scene separately and engaged the subject who assaulted Sgt. Smiddy before he was detained and arrested. Sgt. Smiddy sustained injuries to his head and face during the altercation. Information was also obtained following the incident that the subject had assaulted or attempted to assault three other hospital employees before being subdued by officers. The subject was arrested and booked into the Seward County Jail for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, two counts of assault and also had an outstanding warrant for a previous LPD case.

All suspects charged are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
