Liberal Police, District Court, Sheriff’s Office, and KDOT Warn of New Scams

“It starts with a call, a text, maybe even an email.
‘You have an outstanding toll fees’
‘You missed jury duty—there’s a warrant out.’
‘You just won the lottery—but you need to pay taxes first.’
Sound familiar? It’s a scam. And they’re getting better every day.

Scammers are clever. They might spoof phone numbers, pretend to be local officers, or even claim to be from your bank. But here’s what they all have in common:
They want your money—fast—and they want it through gift cards, wire transfers, or cash apps.

Here’s the truth:
Law enforcement will NEVER ask for money over the phone.
No legitimate agency takes payment in pre-paid cards.
And once you send it? Most banks won’t refund your money.
So ask yourself—do I really know who I’m sending this to?
If you’re unsure—pause and check.

Refer to scam awareness posts from the Liberal Police Department, Seward County Sheriff’s Office, or Kansas Department of Transportation for examples and red flags or give us a call! We’ll help you figure it out—before it’s too late.
Protect yourself. Spread the word. Stay Informed.
