Liberal City Commission Meets, Approves Rural Housing Incentive District

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers for their regularly scheduled meeting. On the agenda was a presentation by Housing Director, Karen Lafreniere and Representatives of the Law Firm of Gilmore and Bell. The presentation lined out the particulars of creating several Rural Housing Incentive Districts within the City for developers to build housing and recieve incentives from the state. Lafreniere indentified several parcels of land within the City that would qualify and Gilmore and Bell explained exactly how the program works. Commissioners unanimously approved the Rural Housing Incentive Districts Program, which is now forwarded to Secretary of Commerce, Pat George, for his departments approval. Also at the meeting, Commissioners approved the purchase of mowers for Code Enforcement from Keating Tractor of Liberal and approved the chip seal bid of B&H Paving of Scott City. Outgoing Commissioner Larry Koochel, who was in his last full meeting of his term, gave an emotional synopsis of the commission and changes that have occurred since 2006, and said farewell to the citizens of Liberal.The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be April 9th.
