LHS Wrestling Results from Wichita West and Scott City

Liberal’s boys and girls wrestling teams competed in different locations on Saturday.  The LHS girls went to Wichita West for a tournament Friday and Saturday.  LHS placed fourth.

Liberal High School secured 4th place with a team score of 149.5 at the Best of the West 2025 tournament, highlighted by standout individual performances. Keirsie Carlile placed 2nd in her division, earning 18.5 points with dominant wins by fall and tech fall before losing in the finals. Genesis Orrantia showcased consistent success, finishing 3rd and contributing 21.0 points, including multiple victories by fall and tech fall. Additionally, Isabela Gutierrez placed 7th, scoring 12.0 points, and Alexa Valenzuela earned 3rd place with a strong 17.0-point contribution. Brianna Pinion and Nicole Catalan also placed 9th in their respective categories, while Evelyn Sandoval and Liliana Santiago demonstrated resilience in their matches.

In the upper-weight classes, Hayleen Martinez shone as Liberal’s top performer, finishing undefeated and claiming 1st place, earning 30.0 points with a series of quick victories by fall. Aileen Figueroa achieved a commendable 2nd place, adding 24.0 points to the team’s total with consistent pins throughout the tournament before falling in the finals. Georgina Dominguez, though unplaced, made notable contributions with several falls. Collectively, these performances highlight the team’s competitive strength and individual successes across various weight categories.

At the 40th Annual SC Boys Wrestling Classic, the Liberal team finished in 6th place with 72.5 points. Notable performances included Julian Orrantia and Oscar Pablo who both placed 2nd in their respective weight classes, contributing 19 and 21 points. Mathew Trejo secured 3rd place in the 215 lb category, earning 18 points. Despite some challenging matchups, several Liberal wrestlers demonstrated resilience, including Isaac Torres, Wyatt Mannel, and Zayden Norez, who secured wins in the consolation rounds. However, many competitors faced tough competition, with some unable to advance past the early rounds. Liberal’s overall performance highlighted individual strengths but left room for growth in future tournaments.
 
At the 40th Annual SC Girls Wrestling Classic, the Liberal girls team showcased determined performances, scoring a total of 22 points. Ingrid Padilla led the team with a 2nd-place finish in the 235 lb category, contributing 12 points. Naomi Lizarraga also had a strong showing at 170 lbs, winning two matches by fall and scoring 7 points. Ariana Cerda at 120 lbs earned 3 points with one win in the consolation rounds. Other participants, including Amarrah Turner, Natalia Escobar, and Haylie Galan, battled valiantly but faced tough competition, with most matches ending in early falls. The tournament highlighted areas for growth and potential for future success.
