LHS Girls Post Best Team Score at Mariah Hills

Bert Luallen

Dodge City, KS – It was a hot, windy day at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City on Thursday for the entire field, which included the Liberal High School Girls Golf Team; and scores reflected that. In spite of those conditions, there was still some good news for the Lady Redskins.

As a team, LHS bettered their best team score of the season by three strokes (505) – in spite of the heat and high winds. Cali Gonzales recorded a career best 18-hole score of 128, breaking 130 for the first time – 10 strokes better than her previous best.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel, the #1 ranked team in the state, took the Team Title. Garden City took the Silver, and Hays the Bronze.

“Of course there were some disappointments in today’s rounds,” Coach Bert Luallen said. “In golf, as with any other sport or activity, you are going to have good days and you are going to have bad days. It didn’t help that we had winds of nearly 20 mph. However, Cali Gonzales was able to lower her career best round by ten strokes and Addy Lopez matched her career best.”
The Lady Redskins will have more than two weeks off from competition. They will return to action when they host their own tournament on September 29.
