LHS Cross Country Competes at Rim Rock

The Liberal High School Varsity Cross Country Teams travelled to Lawrence, KS to run in the Rim Rock Classic 5K Meet. With 82 Teams and 536 runners on the Boys side and 76 teams and 394 runners on the Girls side, Liberal’s young team faired well on the challenging, hilly, Rim Rock Course.

The Boys team came in 48th place, with the Girls finishing in 38th. While the times are slower than they were from the previous week in Hugoton, all of the Liberal runners who had previously run at the Rim Rock Meet, set Course PR’s for themselves.

The Girls were Led by Senior Sofia Lucena who finished in 140th place with at time of 23:29. She was followed by Freshman Valeria Oniveros in 214th at 24:32. Next came Alondra Gonzales, a sophomore in 217th and 24:32, Senior Rubi Alvarez in 236th at 24:58, Jhovana Cruz, a Junior in 291st place with a time of 26:18, followed by Sandra Ventura, 301st place with a time of 26:38, and rounding out the top 7 was Julieana Hernadez in 306th with a time of 26:52.

Once again, Caleb Zamora led the Boys team with a time of 19:07, good for 126th place. He was followed through the chute by EJ Martinez in 194th with a time of 19:52. Next was Piero Huaman in 208th at 19:58, Abel Gomez in 330th at 21:31, Brandon Ailon in 391st at 22:32, J’Koby Contreras in 403rd at 22:34, and wrapping up the Boys was Cain Ortiz in 430th with a time of 23:08.

The Cross Country Teams will travel to Newton on October the 4th.
