LEAD Class 2011 “Big Give” Fundraiser This Saturday

KSCB News - March 17, 2011 8:13 am

The 2011 LEAD class has chosen a project that promotes values of empathy, inclusion, acceptance and love. .

Their goal is to purchase and install some combination (based on funding) of the following handicap accessible play equipment at local special-needs elementary schools and the water park:

To start, the Kansas Arts Council provides a start-up injection of $1,000. Each member of the class has also committed to making a personal cash donation to the project.

Because the cost of this equipment is well above the $1,000 initial funding available for this project, the class has turned their focus toward fundraising efforts with a 3 0n 3 Basketball Tournament. All proceeds from the "Big Give" 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be used for purchasing this accessible equipment. The tournament is this Saturday beginning at 9:00am at SunflowerIntermediateSchool in Liberal

A "Big Give" Community Yard-sale will also take place in the east parking lot of SunflowerElementary School during the basketball tournament. Donations for this sale are appreciated and needed. All proceeds will go toward equipment purchase.

Finally, we will be seeking and accepting individual and business donations needed to reach this goal. Monetary donation are welcome, as are items for the yard sale and business donations to be used as participant prizes for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
