Lady Redskin tennis takes 5th in Garden

The Lady Redskins finished 5th place in a field of twelve teams at the Garden City Invitational Varsity Girls Tennis Tournament on Saturday. Participating teams included Garden City One, Garden City Two, Cimarron, Meade, Hays, Colby, Great Bend, Dodge City, Ulysses, Scott City, and Pratt. Colby took 1st place team honors with 45 points, Dodge City finished 2nd place with 42 points, Great Bend finished 3rd place with 37 points, Garden City finished 4th place with 27 points, and Liberal finished with 26 points for 5th place.

Individual results:

#1 Singlesź??Susan Nguyen went 2-1 finishing 2nd Place. After receiving a #2 seed and a first round bye, Nguyen won her first match against Great Bendź??s Meagan Collins 8-2. She defeated Dodge Cityź??s Hannah Thomas 8-3. Battling illness and a broken racquet string, Nguyen lost to Colbyź??s Caitlin Wark 2-8 to finish 2nd Place.

#2 Singlesź??Valerie Rito went 2-3 on the day finishing 6th Place. She lost her first match to Great Bendź??s Sofia McVey 6-8, defeated Meadeź??s Ashton Ross 8-2, defeated Cimarronź??s Eva Giebler 8-1, lost to Haysź?? Hannah Pfannenstiel 5-8, then lost to Garden Cityź??s Aimee Brandt 3-8 to finish 6th Place.

#1 Doublesź??Caitlin Workman/Kathy Nguyen went 2-3 on the day finishing 8th Place. They defeated Prattź??s Clarkson/Riney 8-7 (7-5 tie breaker), lost to Dodge Cityź??s Newton/Schubert 1-8, defeated Garden Cityź??s Corbet/Nguyen 8-3, lost to Haysź?? Lunsford/McRae 5-8, then lost to Cimmaronź??s Claro/Garcia 6-8 to finish 8th place.

#2 Doublesź??Shelby Hay/Kassandra Rosales went 2-3 finishing 10th Place. They defeated Meadeź??s Harder/Piteo 8-3, lost to Great Bendź??s Stoss/Comte 0-8, lost to Cimmaronź??s Schartz/Marshall 5-8, defeated Garden Cityź??s Carasco/Hernandez 8-4, then lost to Prattź??s Hart/Taylor 7-8 (7-4 tie breaker) to finish 10th Place.
