Kansas Extends Early Retirement Deadline

The deadline for a voluntary early
retirement program for Kansas state workers has been extended to
give employees more time to study their options.
Secretary of Administration Dennis Taylor said Wednesday the
Sept. 19 deadline has been reset to Oct. 14. The decision followed
meetings with the Kansas Organization of State Employees.
About 4,000 state workers are eligible for early retirement. The
state is offering to pay their health insurance premiums for up to
five years or the date they qualify for Medicare, whichever comes
first.
Those accepting early retirement also can take a lump-sum
payment of $6,500.
