Liberal High School Names Joel Plummer Head Boys Basketball Coach
Liberal, KS – Liberal High School is excited to announce Joel Plummer as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach. Plummer brings a strong background in player development, recruiting, and program leadership from both the collegiate and high school levels.
A graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Sport Management, Plummer earned his Master’s in Academic Advising at Kansas State University while serving as a Graduate Assistant for the K-State Men’s Basketball Team under Coach Bruce Weber. His duties included coordinating equipment, managing film and scouting, and helping run practices and summer camps.
He went on to serve as Assistant Coach at the University of Illinois-Springfield, focusing on recruiting, player development, academics, and community engagement. He later spent five years as Associate Head Coach at Murray State College, where he helped lead all areas of the program, followed by a season at Seward County Community College overseeing facilities, weights, and housing.
For the past two years, Plummer has been a key part of the LHS Boys Basketball staff, primarily working on player development and scouting.
“I’m really excited to hit the ground running this summer at LHS,” said Plummer. “It’s important to establish a culture and build winning habits daily. I can’t thank the hiring committee and student-athletes enough for believing in me. We want to show Liberal a relentless spirit built on respect, hard work, and winning.”
Athletic Director Kerri Miles expressed his confidence in the hire:
“Coach Plummer brings an impressive background and deep understanding of the game. He’s committed to building a strong culture and already understands our student-athletes and community. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”
Coach Plummer is set to lead summer workouts and begin building the foundation for a strong upcoming season.
