The Liberal Bee Jays blasted five home runs out of Brent Gould Field Sunday as they salvaged the final game of their series with the Colorado Roughriders 22-12 Sunday afternoon. They hit 10 home runs in the four game series despite losing the series 3-1.
With the wind blowing out 30-40 miles per hour, it was again a tough day to pitch. Liberal scored two in the first on a two RBI single by Drew Grego. The Roughriders answered with a five run four hit second. Liberal scored eight in the second to take the lead back at 10-5. Matt Bernath blasted a three run home run. Drew Garcia hit a sac fly. Jack Ryan singled home two. Kyle Sandner hit a two run homer. The Riders walked five . The Riders scored three in the third to make it 10-8. Liberal claimed a 12-8 lead with two in the third. Landon Bruce and Drew Grego led off the third with solo home runs. The Roughriders scored two in the fourth to make it 12-10. The B.J.’s scored five in the bottom of the fourth. Drew Grego doubled home a run. Drew Barcia singled home a run. Todd Baffa blasted a two run homer. The Rider bats cooled scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth. Liberal added three in the bottom of the sixth. Landon Bruce singled home a run. Carson Willis singled home two.
Liberal out-hit Colorado 16-14. Liberal had four errors and the Roughriders had three. Drew Grego was 4-4 with six RBI’s, a home run, and three runs. JT Cox, Landon Bruce, and Drew Garcia had two hits a piece. Matt Bernath and Drew Garcia had three RBI’s a piece.
The Roughriders are 6-6. The Bee Jays are 7-6 overall and 6-6 in the Rocky Mountain. They host Hays Tuesday night at 7pm at Brent Gould Field with pre-game at 6:45 on 1270 and 92.3. Windtree Management is the buyout sponsor.
