Highway 54 Accident Injures Three

A three vehicle accident Sunday evening has sent three people to the hospital. The accident occured at 7:40pm Sunday evening 9 miles east of Liberal on Highway 54. A 1998 Toyota Subaru being driven by Reymanda Marena, 33, of Liberal, and a 1999 Toyota Sienna being driven by Yvonne Caporal, 42, of Denver, were stopped waiting to turn into Arkalon Park when a 2001 Nissan Xterra being driven by 28 year old Jaime West of liberal failed to yield and crashed into the Caporal vehicle which in turn crashed into the Marena vehicle. The Subaru came to rest facing east on the west bound shoulder, the Sienna came to rest facing east in the east bound lane, while th Xterra came to rest facing southeast in the east bound lane. Injured in the accident was Yvonne Caporal, and two passengers in her vehicle, 8 year old Pilar Herrara of Liberal, and 13 year old Olivia Ferrales of Denver. West, and Marena were not injured in the accident nor were any of their passengers, Silvia Ferrales, Jeremiah Perez, Jasmine Herrera, Julio Garcia, Brianna Moreno, and Ray Moreno. Seatbelts were not in use in the Caporal or the Marena vehicle.
