The Liberal Bee Jays spent the weekend in the Wichita area. After a rainout Saturday night, the B.J.’s and Derby Twins played one nine inning game on Sunday night. Derby prevailed 13-7.
The Twins scored five in the second to take the early advantage. Liberal scored one in the third but the Twins answered to lead 6-1 after three. The Twins added a fourth inning run for the 7-1 lead. The Bee Jay bats awakened with two in the fifth to make it 7-3. Derby tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh to lead 9-3. Liberal got back in the game with four in the eighth to make the score 9-7. But Derby plated four in the eighth to lead 13-7.
Both teams had nine hits. Derby committed four errors and Liberal committed three errors. Liberal used five pitchers who walked 10 while Derby walked six.
Drew Grego was 2-5 with two RBI’s. Justin Hudson and Jacob Ortega added two hits a piece.
Derby is 19-10. Liberal is 13-12. The Bee Jays return to Rocky Mountain play at Hays Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 7pm on 1270 and 92.3 with pre-game at 6:45 both nights.
