Couple Return Home To Find Their House On Fire

At 8:44 PM Saturday evening, the Liberal Fire Department was called out for a possible structure fire at 609 S Virginia. The occupants had been out for the evening and when they returned home they found the fire and called 911. The first in units found heavy smoke accompanied by heavy fire in the back side of the structure. Firefighters slowed down the fire with an exterior attack followed directly by an interior attack fully extinguishing the fire. The fire was out around 9:20PM. The house suffered extensive damage in the fire room and heavy smoke damage throughout the entire house.
Fire Fighters did a complete overhaul of the scene extinguishing hot spots and checking for any fire extension till 11:39 PM. All fire apparatus and crews were back in service at 12:37. Fire investigators will be returning to the scene on Monday to do a full investigation of the fire. The origin and cause of this fire are undetermined at this time.
The response to this call consisted of 3 Engines and 15 personnel. The LFD was also assisted by, Liberal Police Department, Seward County EMS, Liberal Water Department, Black Hills, Southern Pioneer and The American Red Cross.
