City Commission Meets And Reorganizes

KSCB News - April 14, 2009 12:00 am

The Liberal City Commission met last night for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda was the Transient Guest Tax Petition. After a lengthy discussion, commissioners asked that the Convention and Visitors Board, and local motel owners get together with the city commission for work session. Commissioners also adopted Charter Ordinance No. 34 which sunsets the 4/10% sales tax that was voted on in 2006 to pay all the Trailmobile debt obligations. With that debt paid in full, the 4/10% will sunset on July 1st, 2009. The City Commission also said goodbye to two outgoing commissioners, Doug LaFreniere, and Don Rash. Newly elected commissioners, Joe Denoyer, Tim Long, and Bob Carlile, were then sworn in, and the new city commission reorganized. Joe Denoyer was reelected Mayor, with Tim Long being elected Vice Mayor. The commission then approved, vehicle and environmental abatements, new entrances for the Liberal Cemetary, with the money coming from a private donation, and entered into an agreement with Bucher, Willis, and Ratliff for engineering services for improvements to the Liberal Municipal Airport. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission wil be on April 22, 2009.
