City Commission Approves Rezoning of Properties

Joe Denoyer - May 9, 2023 8:35 pm

The Liberal City Commission met on Tuesday evening, and after accepting a donation from Black Hills Energy for the Liberal Fire Department, approved the rezoning of two properties. The first property rezoned is the 300 Block of South Western Avenue while the second property is located at tracts B, C, and D of the McCray Addition. The first rezone is for Dollar General, while the second is for a multi-family housing project.

Commissioners approved the submittal of a Housing Preservation Grant. The proposed project is to apply for funding to repair up to 10 homes owned by low to very low-income homeowners in the City of Liberal. Each home will be eligible for up to $10,000 in repairs.

Benesch & Associates presented a scope of work to produce accurate floodplain mapping for the City of Liberal. This project was approved by the Commission in an amount not to exceed $200,000 to be funded through the Street, Drainage & other Capital Improvement portion of the one-cent sales tax.

There was also a discussion on a water lead and copper survey within the City.
