BJ’s Walk Off With Win Over Junction City

KSCB News - June 29, 2010 12:00 am

Sam Konnoff took a 3-2 pitch high and outside with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to give the Liberal Bee Jays an 6-5 win over the Junction City Generals Monday night at Brent Gould Field. The BJ’s led the game 5-3 going to the top of the ninth until the Generals hit a homer over the center field wall to tie the game. The Bee Jays won thanks in part to four Junction City errors and seven walks. Lubbock Christian’s Paul Gonzalez pitched five scoreless innings in the win. Angelina’s Austin Robson pitched two and a third innings allowing three runs but no earned runs. San Diego’s Nick Youpel pitched one third of an inning scoreless before Lamar’s Brandon Ward-Hersee pitched the ninth and allowed two runs but picked up the win.

The Bee Jays scored one in the first, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh and ninth innings. Kansas State’s Nick Cocking and Chandler-Gilbert’s Aaron Mees had two hits a piece.

Liberal improves to 11-6 overall while the Generals fall to 8-7. The same two teams meet Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with Scantlin’s Furniture buying out the game.
