Bee Jays Win NBC World Series Opener

The Liberal Bee Jays had to rally in the bottom half of the eighth inning to defeat the San Diego Waves 8-4 in the NBC World Series opener Tuesday in Wichita.

Liberal led 3-1 heading into the eighth, but surrendered three runs to trail 4-3 with just six outs remaining. The Bee Jays rallied though plating five of their own by loading up the bases with just one out.

Alex Williams tied the game at four as he had a pinch hit single to right. Kevin Carby then had a 2-RBI single to center to put the Bee Jays up 6-4. Justin Gordey then added and RBI, while an error by San Diego gave Liberal another run.

Don Lisi got a no decision for the Bee Jays pitching seven innings and giving up one unearned run. Bobby Doran came in relief in the ninth to earn the victory improving him to 3-4 on the season.

The Bee Jays are now now 30-18 on the season and will play on Friday against Rock City, North Carolina Red Sox at at time to later be announced.
