The Liberal City Commission met on Tuesday Evening and after Proclaiming as October 5th – 11th as Fire Prevention Week, gave approval to Ordinance No. 4640 to issue a Temporary Event Permit to the Seward County United Way in order to hold their 2025 Oktoberfest Fundraiser.
For the Fire Department, the Commission approved the purchase of twelve Scott breathing air cylinders from MES for an amount not to exceed $17,500.00.
Commissioners approved the purchase of a DTF Printer Package from Equipment Zone for an amount not to exceed $28,000, and also approved the purchase of an Embroidery Machine from Ricoma for an amount not to exceed $10,000, both to be funded from the Recreation Department Gifts and Donations line item.
The City Commissioners heard a report from Water’s Edge Aquatics on needed repairs to the Waterpark, and after discussion, the City will schedule a work session to plan on how to proceed.
The Commission approved Vanessa Ardese to serve out the unexpired term of Rueben Cano on the Library Board from September 2025 until June 2028.
Southwest Roofing LLC was awarded the contract for the roof repairs at the Depot building in the amount of $142,726. The total amount will not exceed $160,000, and payment will be funded from the 2025 Economic Development portion of the One Cent Sales Tax.
Angle parking in downtown Liberal was discussed by the Commission and the City will look to hire a City planning/civil engineer to assist the City.
