After 3 Long Years, Greensburg School Almost Ready

KSCB News - April 9, 2010 12:00 am

Three years after a tornado destroyed their town and their schools, Greensburg students are close to having a new place to learn.

Greensburg school superintendent Darin Headrick says the town’s $49.4 million school is about 80% finished, and will be ready for classes by the fall.

Students have been using double-wide trailers since a May 4, 2007, tornado destroyed every school facility in town.

Town and school leaders decided to build one facility for all the districts’ students, so they could share a gymnasium, library and cafeteria.

Headrick says private, federal, state and insurance money have paid for 98% of the project.
