Homecoming Heartache for the Redskins

The Liberal Redskins put up a fight in a foul fest of a game Friday night in the Big House.  The  Great Bend Panthers made the plays down the stretch to beat the Redskins 76-70.  The two teams combined to shoot 69 free throws.

The Redskins 21-17 and led 21-20 at end of the first quarter.  The Redskins took a 38-30 lead before leading 38-32 as the fouls were mounting on both teams.  LHS claimed their second eight point lead at 44-36 in the third quarter.  Great Bend’s trapping full court defense helped the Panthers lead 50-48 after three.  The Panthers led 61-54 before a James Fieser bucket cut the lead to 61-58 with 2:06 to play.  But Great Bend led 67-58 to put the game away.

The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Eathan Hernandez with 17 points.  Juan Diego and James Fieser scored 14 a piece.

Great Bend is 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the WAC.  Liberal falls to 1-14 overall and 0-4 in the WAC.  The Redskins have lost 37 WAC games in a row.  GBHS had won nine straight against LHS including five straight in the Big House.
