Lady Saints Scuffle in Middle of Hutchinson Loss

Seward outscored the Hutchinson Lady Dragons in the first and fourth quarters Saturday afternoon in the Green House.  But the Lady Saints scuffled in the second and third quarters of a 66-60 loss to #20 Hutch.  It’s Seward’s ninth straight loss to an HCC women’s program they haven’t beaten in four years.  Seward led early 14-2.  But the Lady Dragons out paced Seward 17-9 in the second quarter and 19-10 in the third quarter.

The Lady Saints started strongly leading 10-2 at the 4:29 mark of the first quarter.  Seward led 14-2.  It was 18-10 after one quarter.  Hutch outscored SCCC 17-9 in the third quarter to tie the game 27-27 at the half.  Hutch dominated the third quarter 19-10 to lead 46-37 after three. Hutch led 46-35 in the third.  Seward rallied in the fourth cutting the lead to 59-57 with  2;46 to play and 61-60 with 1:30 remaining.  But Seward did not score again.

The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Trinitee Holmes with 13 points and seven rebounds.  Avery Marchino had 12 points and eight rebounds.  A’Neya  Chambers scored 11.

Seward sputtered from three point range going 2-13 while shooting 40 percent from the field and 14-21 from the foul line.  The Lady Dragons were 6-19 from three while shooting 44 percent from the field and 12-18 from the foul line.  Seward out-rebounded Hutch 38-32.  Seward had 17 turnovers and HCC had 16.

Hutchinson is 17-5 overall and 12-4 in the Jayhawk. Seward loses their third straight and drops their ninth straight to Hutch.  The Lady Saints are 14-8 overall and 9-7 in the KJCCC.   Seward hosts Pratt Wednesday night at 6pm with Saints Shoot-around at 5:45 on 1270 and 92.3.  BSN is the game sponsor and admission is free.
