The Seward Lady Saints went cold late in a 74-67 overtime loss to the Colby Lady Trojans Sunday afternoon in the Colby Events Center. The Lady Saints led by nine early in the third quarter but struggled offensively and on the glass in the loss. Colby out rebounded Seward 44-33. Seward was 14-55 from the field in the second half.
Colby built an 8-0 lead. Seward raced back to lead 20-16 and led 24-20 after one. Kimora Fagan ripped a three to begin the second quarter to give SCCC a 27-20 lead. Seward briefly built a 36-29 lead of seven before taking a 36-30 lead to the half. Seward built their biggest lead of nine at 43-34. The Lady Trojans cut the lead to 43-38 at the media timeout. Colby led 48-46 after three. Colby led 50-46. A steal and lay up by Kimora Fagan tied the game at 52-52. Seward led 58-54 with 4:30 to play. Seward led 60-58 before Colby tied the game at 60-60. Seward had the ball with a chance to win it with 11.6 seconds to go but never got a good shot up. The Lady Trojans dominated overtime 14-7. Colby outscored SCCC 30-24 in the fourth quarter.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game was Trinitee Holmes with 15 points which is her career high. Avery Marchino scored 21 points with nine rebounds. Kimora Fagan dropped in 10.
Seward shot just 33 percent from the field making just 14-55 for 26 percent in the second half. Seward was 8-30 from three and 13-19 from the foul line. Colby shot 44 percent from the field and 4-21 from three point range. Colby was 16-27 from the foul line.
Colby is 11-9 overall and 8-6 in the KJCCC. They have won five of their last six. Seward is 14-6 overall and 9-5 in the Jayhawk. SCCC has lost three straight in Colby. The Lady Saints play at Coffeyville Wednesday night at 5:30 with Saints Shoot-around at 5:15 on 1270 and 92.3.
