Seward Spurt Sends Saints to Win Over Barton

Seward was trailing by three 57-54 in another grueling Jayhawk Conference matchup Saturday afternoon and evening in the Green House.  That’s before the Saints went on a 14-0 run to lead 68-57 and ultimately win 95-77 over the Cougars.  The Saints had lost five in a row against the Cougars.  It’s the first time both the SCCC men and women beat Barton since 2022.

Seward took early leads of 17-14, 22-17, and 24-20.  Barton rallied to lead 38-34 in a chippy first half which included two technical fouls against the Saints and one against the Cougars.  Barton led 38-36 at the half.  In the second half, Barton led 57-54 before Seward went on a frenzied 17-3 run to lead 71-60.  Seward led handily for the rest of the game leading by as many as 19 points.  The Saints out scored the Cougars 59-39 in the second half.

Seward shot 48 percent from the field and made 8-20 from three making 27-38 from the foul line.  Barton shot 40 percent while making 7-18 from three and 28-38 from the foul line.  Seward led points off turnovers 18-9.  The Saints led points in the paint 38-26.  SCCC forced 17 Barton turnovers while committing 10 turnovers.  The game was plagued by 55 fouls and four technicals.

Antonio Williams scored 26 points and was Black Hill Energy Player of the Game.  RJ McKinnie scored a career high

Barton is 10-7 overall and 5-6 in the Jayhawk .  Seward is 12-4 overall and 7-3 in the Jayhawk.   The Saints are in a four way tie for first with Independence, Dodge City, and Butler.   Seward plays at Cowley Wednesday night at 7:30 on 1270 and 92.3.
