The Seward Lady Saints rallied from nine down to defeat the Barton Lady Cougars 64-56 Saturday afternoon in the Green House. Seward forced 28 Barton turnovers in the win. Seward trailed 27-20 at the half but out scored Barton 30-17 in the third quarter.
The Lady Saints jumped out to a lead of 9-4 before Barton rallied to lead 13-11 after one. Barton commanded the second quarter leading 25-16 and 27-18 before taking a 27-20 lead at the half. Seward shot 21 percent in the first half and committed 15 turnovers. Barton jumped to a 31-22 lead for their third nine point lead. Seward used the full court press to cut the lead to 33-32 after and Au’Rayona Seals steal and Trinittee Holmes lay up with 4:50 to play in the third. Avery Marchino sound Seals after another steal to take the lead 34-33 with 4:23 to play in the third. A Grace Posch three pointer gave SCCC a 50-44 lead and that was the score at the end of three. Seward won the third quarter 30-17. Seward took their biggest lead of 10 at 58-48 when Destiny Alexander buried a shot in the high lane with 3:45 to play.
Seward shot 31 percent from the field and 3-20 from three point range but made 25-27 free throws. Barton shot 37 percent and 1-8 from three while going 17-28 from the foul line.
Avery Marchino led Seward with 22 points going 16-16 from the foul line. Destiny Alexander added 13 points with seven rebounds.
Barton is 6-11 overall and 4-7 in the Jayhawk. Seward is 12-4 overall and 7-3 in the Jayhawk. Seward plays at Cowley Wednesday night at 5:30 with Saints Shoot-around at 5:15 on 1270 and 92.3.
