Seward Rallies for Win at Garden City

Trailing by as many as nine points, the Seward Lady Saints rallied for a 62-59 win over the Garden City Lady Busters Wednesday night at Conestoga Energy Arena in Garden City.   The Lady Saints have won three of the last four in Garden City.   It’s Seward’s third KJCCC road win of the season.

Seward jumped out to a 6-0 lead.  It was 9-9 after one quarter.  GCCC led 28-24 at the half.  The Lady Busters built a lead of 35-26 before Seward went on a run 18-5 to lead 44-40 after back to back three pointers by Trinitee Holmes.  It was 44-44 after three.  Seward took a lead of 50-49 before GCCC went on a 6-0 run to lead 55-50 with 5:21 remaining.  Seward rallied to lead 59-57 with 2:47 to play.  Destiny Alexander grabbed a loose ball and scored for a 61-57 lead with 37 seconds left.  Seward led 61-59 with the ball and 21 seconds left.  They ran the clock all the way down to 1.9 seconds.  Avery Marchino hit one of two free throws for the 62-59 lead.  GCCC had the ball with a chance to tie and 1.9 second remaining.  But Garden was unable to inbound the pass.

Both teams shot 50 percent from the field.  Seward was 12-16 from the free throw line and 6-10  from three point range.  Garden City was 8-18 from three and 5-10 from the foul line.  SCCC out rebounded GCCC 22-20.  Seward had 16 turnovers and GCCC had 15.

Avery Marchino was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 22 points and seven rebounds.  Trinitee Holmes had 12 poins and seven rebounds.  Destiny Alexander had 12 points.  Kimora Fagan added 11.

Garden City is 9-2 overall and 4-2 in the Jayhawk .   Seward is 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the KJCCC.   .Seward hosts Butler for their last game before Christmas break Saturday at 2pm with Saints Shoot-around at 1:45 on 1270 and 92.3.  The Pancake House is the buyout sponsor.
