The Seward County Saints overcame a 15 point deficit for an 81-79 win over the Pratt Beavers Wednesday night at the Beaver Dome in Pratt. RJ McKinnie’s lay up with 3.3 seconds left put the Saints ahead to stay.
Pratt jumped to leads of 14-8, 16-11, and 18-13. Pratt extended the lead to 29-15 with 8:11 to play. The Saints closed the lead to 34-25 and 36-27. Seward closed strongly to trail 39-33 at halftime. The Saints claimed their first lead at 49-48 with 14:35 to play. SCCC led 52-49 with 13 minutes remaining. The Beavers lead 61-56 before the Saints tied it 67-67 with 4:58 to play. Seward led 69-68 with 4:28 to play after a pair of Lucas N’Gombo free throws. RJ McKinnie knocked down a pair of free throws for a 77-74 lead with 1:17 to play. RJ McKinnie’s lay up with 3.3 seconds left gave Seward the 81-79 lead.
Both Seward and Pratt shot 53 percent from the field. SCCC was 3-15 from three and 26-37 from the foul line. Pratt was 7-22 from 3 and 22-32 from the foul line. The Saints led points off turnovers 21-14 as SCCC committed 12 turnovers but forced 18 PCC turnovers.
Lucas N’Gombo led the Saints with 17 points and was Epic Touch Player of the Game. Korbin Dowdell scored 14. RJ McKinnie and Awit Mamer scored 12 a piece.
Pratt falls to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the Jayhawk. The Saints are 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Jayhawk. Seward hosts Fort Hays Tech Saturday at 4pm on 107.5. Top Volt is the buyout sponsor.
