In front of a group of adoring 5th graders, the Seward County Saints opened their home basketball season Wednesday morning and afternoon in the Green House. Seward breezed by the Friends JV 107-53 as Liberal 5th graders packed the lower sections for green seats. Seward made 14-31 three pointers. It’s Seward’s 1st 3-0 start since November of 2022. Seward led 55-22 at halftime and outscored the Falcons 52-31 in the second half. Antonio Williams Jr. was Epic Touch Player of the game making 5-8 from three point range and scoring 18 points while pulling down six rebounds. Awit Mamer and Lyna Brooks Jr. scored 15 a piece. Korbin Dowdell had 10 points with six assists and no turnovers. Seward shot 57 percent from the field and won despite 19 turnovers. The Saints forced 34 turnovers. Seward out-rebounded Friends 46-27. The Friends JV is coached by Chris Tyler who played for the Saints in 2005-06. The Saints host Frank Phillips Tuesday night at 5:30 with Saints Shoot-around at 5:15 on 1270 and 92.3.
