COLBY, Kan. – Seward County volleyball sophomore outside hitter Mariana Silva was named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Silva, a native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, helped the Saints finish 1-1 on the week with a road loss at Garden City and a home sweep of Cloud County.
After starting her week with 15 kills and six digs in a four-set loss at Garden City, Silva tied a career-high with 25 kills in a home sweep of Cloud County. The sophomore recorded a .347 hitting percentage and added two service aces and one block in a sweep of the Thunderbirds to finish the week with 40 kills across two matches while adding 10 digs and two blocks.
Silva has recorded double-digit kills in 12 of Seward’s 15 matches this season. Her 3.77 kills per set this season ranks second in the KJCCC and her 226 total kills ranks third in the league.
Silva and the Saints have two road matches this week, traveling to Hutchinson on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match and then to Colby on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start time.
