Trey Burnett Named Assistant in SCCC Athletics

LIBERAL, Kan. — Seward County Community College Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Trey Burnett as the new Associate Athletic Director for Communications.

In his role, Burnett will aim to promote all 12 Seward sports. He will handle live streaming, statistics, game operation, website maintenance, social media, graphic design, news releases and record keeping among other things for Seward County Athletics.

Prior to the role at Seward, Burnett served two years in a similar role at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., as the Director of Sports Information and Operations. He oversaw the Grizzly athletic departments communication efforts, social media and social media marketing while also handling all game operation for home games including football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball and soccer.

While at Butler, Burnett grew the Grizzlies social media following on all accounts. Facebook followers grew from 10,000 to 12,859, Instagram followers rose from 6,530 to 8,924 and X (Twitter) followers went from 13,600 to 16,900.

Burnett also oversaw a re-design of the ButlerGrizzlies.com website, refreshing it to a more modern interface with Presto Sports 2.0 integration.

Prior to Butler, Burnett spent nearly two years as a graduate assistant for athletics communications at Tarleton State University, an NCAA Division 1 university in Stephenville, Texas. At Tarleton State, he served as the primary media contact and social media manager for the Texan baseball and volleyball programs as well as taking over soccer, track and field and women’s basketball at various times throughout his tenure. Burnett increased the Tarleton Baseball Twitter account (@TarletonBase) to over 10,000 followers from 5,000 at the start of his tenure, a 100% growth rate. He wrote all team related content for the above-mentioned sports that was published on TarletonSports.com Other duties included taking and editing photos for website and social media use as well as working extensively in the Adobe suite creating graphics and editing video among other projects.

He graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2022. While at SHSU, Burnett was a sports information student assistant. In that role, he provided in game updates to official Bearkat social media accounts for nearly every sport, including the 2020 national championship winning Bearkat football team. He also helped maintain gobearkats.com and helped with statistics for basketball games at Johnson Coliseum.

A Lake Jackson, Texas, native, Burnett received his bachelor’s degree in public relations from Sam Houston State University in 2022. He received a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration from Tarleton State in 2023.

Burnett and his fiancée, Kimber Cortemelia, (Seward County Head Softball Coach) reside in Liberal.
