Dodge City Finally Beats Bee Jays

The Liberal Bee Jays have had their way with the Dodge City A’s in recent years.  Liberal had won 10 in a row over their southwest Kansas rivals.  The Bee Jays had one 26 of their last 28 against Dodge City.   But Saturday night, was Dodge City’s night.  The Dodge City A’s topped the Bee Jays 10-7.  The B.J. culprit was walks.  Bee Jay pitching walked 10.

The A’s scored two in the first and one in the third for the early 3-0 lead.  Liberal scored two in the fourth.  But the A’s broke the game open with five in the fourth to lead 8-2.  The B.J.’s crept back with one in the fifth and two in the seventh to make it 8-5.  Dodge plated one in the seventh and one in the eighth to lead 10-5.  Liberal scored two in the seventh.  It was Liberal’s first loss to Dodge City since an 11-10 game at Dodge City on July 17 of 2023.

Liberal lost despite out-hitting Dodge City 10-4.  Both teams had one error.  Liberal lost because of walks.  The Bee Jays walked 10 and Dodge walked four.

The Bee Jays lost despite a big night from Epic Touch Player of the Game Drew Grego who went 3-5 with two home runs, five RBI’s, and one double.  Kyle Hawkworth worked two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks.

Dodge City is 11-15 overall and 9-8 in the Rocky Mountain.  Liberal is 11-10 overall and 9-10 in the Rocky Mountain.  The Sunday night game in Liberal was rained out and moved to July 20 to wrap up the regular season.  The Bee Jays play in Denver Tuesday at 5pm central time against the Colorado Roughriders with pre-game at 4:45 on 1270 and 92.3.   The game is at Regis.
