It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Maddox Rylan Miller, age 21, on October 30, 2026. Born in Amarillo, Texas, on October 27, 2005, to Robbie and Tara Miller, Maddox lived his life with unmistakable enthusiasm and determination. He was known for his infectious smile that could light up any room.
He was an overachiever in everything he pursued, always setting high expectations for himself. But beyond his accomplishments, Maddox will be remembered most for his faith, his generous heart, his friendships, and the way he made others feel valued and included.
Maddox was a senior at Oklahoma State University, where he was pursuing a degree in Finance and Accounting with a minor in Ethical Leadership and had aspirations to attend law school. He was a member of the OSU Honors College and selected for the prestigious McKnight Scholars Leadership Program, a highly competitive program focused on developing ethical leaders.
His involvement on campus reflected his passion for leadership and bringing people together. As a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Maddox served on the Executive Council and was a representative on the Interfraternity Council through OSU Junior Greek Leadership. He was a member of the OSU First-Year Representative Council within the Student Government Association. Maddox served as Social Chairman for the Spears Business Student Council. He was also a member of various business organizations including Beta Alpha Psi, Financial Management Association, and the Spearhead Scholars Investment Banking Program.
Maddox’s dedication and hard work were recognized through numerous academic and leadership honors, as well as internship opportunities. He was named runner-up for Oklahoma State Greek New Member of the Year, received the Koch Industries Scholarship, and earned recognition on the President’s Honor Roll. He was also selected for Order of Omega, an honor recognizing the top five percent of fraternity and sorority leaders. Maddox recently received three highly coveted internship offers from ONEOK, Love’s Corporate, and MidFirst Bank and was a finalist for the BOK internship.
His commitment to leadership went beyond campus organizations. He founded Maddox’s Message, an initiative created to raise awareness and promote the prevention of sexual assault and hazing in high school locker rooms.
Giving back was also an important part of Maddox’s life. He was involved with Into the Streets at Oklahoma State, where he served on the Communications Committee. His commitment to helping others began long before college. Through Miller Mowing he often provided free lawn care for families in need.
While Maddox’s accomplishments were many, those who knew him will tell you that some of their favorite memories had nothing to do with awards or recognition.
Anyone who knew Maddox knew how competitive he was and how much sports meant to him. Basketball was especially important and a big part of his life growing up, but he also played football, ran hurdles in track, was a southpaw pitcher, and enjoyed playing golf. Summers were often spent traveling to different states, competing in baseball and club basketball with several teams. Of all those experiences, the most special was playing with the West Texas Splash Family out of Amarillo, Texas.
He had a gift for sales and loved wheeling and dealing on Facebook Marketplace, always looking for the next opportunity to make a few bucks. If you didn’t want something, Maddox was happy to take it off your hands and turn a profit.
Maddox had an incredible work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit. At just 13, he founded Miller Mowing, starting with just one yard. When his little brother, Carter, joined him, they grew the business together to 45 yards. They shared countless hours mowing yards and dreaming up what they could do next. Carter recently shared that they were planning another business and even talking about taking their idea to Shark Tank.
Maddox was incredibly proud of Carter and never missed an opportunity to brag about him to his fraternity brothers. He was especially excited about the thought of Carter possibly joining him at Oklahoma State next year.
At the Sigma Nu fraternity house, Maddox became the unofficial (and probably official in his own mind) tie expert. His fraternity brothers would often line up before an event for him to tie their ties. There was also the time a fraternity brother couldn’t find his Sigma Nu polo. Without hesitation, Maddox literally gave him the shirt off his own back. Maddox never hesitated to help someone.
Faith was an important part of Maddox’s life. Even with a busy schedule balancing a full-time job at Simmons Bank and school, he made it a priority to get up at 7:00 a.m. for Bible study. He also encouraged his fraternity brothers to grow in their faith, often waking them up to go to church with him. His faith was something he lived out in his everyday life and loved sharing with those around him.
Maddox is survived by his parents, Robbie and Tara Miller; his brother, Carter Miller; his Nana, Linda Lewis; and grandparents, Ernest and Luella Miller. He is also survived by his uncles and aunts, Stuart and Roxie Kinsey and Randy and Darlene Miller; along with cousins, Sage, Shay, Brady, Kylie, and Kaden. Regina and Mike Paley and Shelly and Tom Williams also held a special place in Maddox’s life. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Grover Smallwood, Jr.
Maddox’s life was far too short, but the impact he made was immeasurable. His legacy will live on through the people he encouraged, the lives he touched, the causes he championed, and the countless memories shared by those who loved him. Maddox will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, in the auditorium at Follett High School | 205 E. Ivanhoe Avenue | Follett, Texas. Maddox will be laid to rest in Chickasha, Oklahoma in a private service preceding the Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests that memorial contributions be made in Maddox’s name to the Cowboys Care at Oklahoma State University, a mental health initiative committed to changing the mental health conversation and to provide the help our young men and women are so desperately in need of.
