The Liberal varsity girls tennis team traveled to Great Bend on Saturday. The girls had a rougher day being introduced to some tougher competition. Only being our second tournament of the season, we saw areas we must improve on to reach our goals in October.
Liberal took 5th place as a team with 8 teams competing. Sterling took the top placing on the day with a tough group of girls.
Individually:
1 singles, Evelyn Tarango finished in 3rd place going 3-1. She played very well, even avenging a loss from last season and beating her 8-3 this season.
2 singles, Emery Turner went 1-3 and took 6th. Two of those losses easily could have gone either way. The experience of the other girls helped them in the end.
1 doubles, Maliah Navarro & Yvanna Rivera started the day trying to figure things out going 0-3. They got a few things figured out and finished 2-0 to go 2-2 in the day for 5th.
2 doubles, Bella Patel & Aileen Figuero went 1-3 but drastically improved from morning to afternoon. They are gaining more experience as a team and also figuring things out.
We do have to do better from start to finish the rest of the way. Girls are competitive and ready for their next challenge which is Tuesday in Dodge City against several of the same teams.
