A Day in the Sun for Seward Softball

The Seward softball team enjoyed a day in the sun Thursday.  They swept the visiting Colby Trojans 8-0 and 11-5 on a day when one of their biggest supporters Bill French was recognized for kick starting a project of putting in turf and new fencing at French Family Field.

In game one, Aaliyah Arrendondo pitched a five inning no hitter.  She struck out four and walked one.  Ami Perez had a monster game going 3-3 with a home run, a double, and six RBI’s.  The Saints had six hits and the Trojans had three errors.  Seward scored two in the first, two in the third, and four in the fifth.

In game two, Seward scored one in the first and three in the second for the 4-0 lead.  Colby scored two in the third but SCCC answered with four in the bottom of the third for an 8-2 lead.  Colby scored two in the fourth to make it 8-4.  SCCC added two fourth inning runs to lead 10-4.  Colby scored in the fifth and the Saints plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.  Seward out-hit Colby 9-8.   Taylor Harding was 2-4 with three runs and two RBI’s.  Jahlisa Klear and Ami Perez had two hits a piece.  Klear had a double.  Grace Horne pitched the distance for the win.

Colby falls to 24-23 overall and 15-10 in the Jayhawk.  Seward is 17-27 overall and 9-17 in the Jayhawk.  Seward is 10-8 at home and hosts Dodge City for their last home game Friday at 1pm at French Family Field.
