Redskins Win Home Opener

Home field did the trick.  After playing in seven different towns to begin the season, the Redskins played in their own on Friday afternoon and evening and topped the visiting Woodward Boomers 6-4 at National Beef Sports Complex.

LHS scored one in the first and one in the fourth for the 2-0 lead.  The Boomers plated one in the fifth and the Redskins answered with four in the bottom of the fifth for the 6-1 lead.  Woodward made things interesting with three in the seventh.  Woodward out-hit Liberal 8-7.  Both teams had two errors.  Bren Kappelmann pitched five innings allowing three hits striking out six and walking three.  Austin Dodge nailed down the save.  Eathan Hernandez, Ethan Olmstead, and Kye Morris had two hits a piece.  Hernandez hit a triple and Morris had a double.  Landry Fitzgerald and Eathan Hernandez had two RBI’s a piece.

Woodward is 10-21.  Liberal is 5-8.  The Redskins host Garden City Tuesday night at 6pm on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
