The Liberal Redskin boys tennis team opens their boys tennis season Tuesday at Valley Center. David Short is in his fourth season as head coach. There are 13 out for boys tennis. The Redskins lose Emmanuel Garcia from last year’s team after he made state for a third year and Parker Brown who made state twice.
Liberal’s lineup to begin the season starts with Sr. Aron Duque at number one singles. He has an increased focus on tennis this year and is leading the team. Another senior, Diego Flores brings varsity experience. The number one doubles team is a pair of sophomores Easton Martinez and J’Kobe Contreras. The number two doubles team to begin the season is Jr. Edgar Galindo and another sophomore Eli Harris. Sophomores Aaron Munoz and Jose Bolivar and Jr. Gerardo Holguin will compete for varsity sports.
Last year Emmanuel Garcia made state. In 2024, Parker Brown and Daniel Nguyen along with Jovanni Garcia and Emmanuel Garcia made state. In 2023, Hudson Brown and Daniel Nguyen made state along with Parker Brown and Emmanuel Garcia. The Redskins have qualified players for state in each of Short’s three years. He says he has some good young players to lead the program for years to come.
The tennis team was featured during Sportsguys Tuesday morning.
