The Liberal baseball team took two at Hugoton Thursday afternoon and evening in Hugoton. The Redskins won game one 14-6 and took game two 18-2 in four innings. What began as a hot day ended in the 60’s with strong wind in game two.
In game one, Liberal scored five in the first and the Eagles plated two. LHS scored two in the second and five in the third to lead 12-2 before Hugoton scored four in the bottom of the third. The Skins plated a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Hugoton out-hit Liberal 11-9. HHS pitching walked 10 and LHS did not issue a walk. Ethan Olmstead was 3-5 with a double, two runs, and two RBI’s. Evan Castillo was 2-2. Bren Kappelmann pitched five shutout innings with five strikeouts and no walks. Isai Betance hit a home run for Hugoton.
In game two, LHS scored four in the first and Hugoton scored two. The Redskins scored a second inning run. LHS added four in the third and nine in the fourth. Bentlee Betts was 4-4 with three RBI’s, four runs, and two doubles. Eathan Hernandez was 2-3 with two runs. Kye Morris was 2-2 with three RBI’s and three runs. Ethan Olmstead was 2-3. Blayden Betts slammed a home run. Blayden Betts pitched three innings and did not allow an earned run. Bentlee Betts pitched a scoreless inning. LHS out-hit Hugoton 14-2. Hugoton had four errors and LHS had one.
Hugoton is 0-2 and plays at Holcomb Tuesday. Liberal is 4-2 and plays at Garden City for a double header Tuesday at 4pm on 1270 and 92.3 FM. Redskin Pre-game at 3:45.
