The Liberal High School volleyball season is underway. The Redskins opened their season going 2-2 at Wichita North’s tournament Saturday morning and afternoon. It’s a strong showing under first year head coach Erik Asencio. Last year LHS was 5-29 and 4-30 two years ago. So two wins in the opening weekend was a huge step for LHS.
They opened with a loss to Rose Hill 16-25, 15-25 in the 8am game in the auxiliary gym Saturday morning. After a break, Liberal bounced back with a pair of wins beating Wichita Collegiate 25-14, 25-17 and Wichita South 25-22,25-11. LHS lost in bracket play to Mulvane Saturday afternoon 16-25, 25-19, 7-25.
Haiden Lyon had 20 kills and 19 digs. Devyn Horyna had 12 kills and 15 digs for the day. Liliana Santiago had 43 assists. Miah Janko had 20 digs. Brooklyn Short had 10 aces.
Liberal hosts Perryton in the Big House Tuesday night at 5pm.
